Is it just my feed, or is every single social media site filled with reels of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce? It’s full-on Traylor Mania.

Full disclosure: I had no clue who Travis Kelce was until TS showed up at his football game in Kansas City about two months ago. And I only knew that much because social media seemed hell-bent on wanting me to know that.

Further disclosure: I thought TS was a country-pop singer with a few hit songs about her shitty ex-boyfriends. I attributed most of her songs to Katy Perry (actually).

Taylor Swift didn’t fall onto my radar until last spring when everyone was going crazy trying to get tickets to her Eras Tour. I didn’t get it. Why were so many people of all ages so jazzed to see this gal? What was my middle-aged ass missing?

Then, I searched out her music. It was surprisingly good, and the lyrics are clever. She writes all her stuff. She has accomplished a lot for a woman in her early 30s. One major milestone is that she recently made the Billionaire list.

Her tour alone is set to earn $1 billion in ticket sales and contribute $5.7 billion to the US economy. That’s more revenue than the GDP of 35 countries combined!

That’s insanely impressive.

Then I assumed she must be a diva, and maybe she is. How could you not be? The gal has a lot going on: looks, talent and brains. But she seems to be a super kind and generous philanthropist with a solid head on her shoulders. Hell! She even has nice manners.

I looked up her list of ex-boyfriends.  There were a lot on the list. She seemed to have a type–wiry British boy.  One of her fortes is to write break-up songs after it all goes to hell in a handbasket, which is her prerogative. She’s a songwriter, singer and storyteller, and if she wants to share her break-up story, so be it. It’s a winning formula for her.

Enter NFL Hunk

TS has a thing for friendship bracelets. Kitchy and a wee bit nauseating, but again, pretty cute and harmless.

Football hunk Travis Kelce gave her a friendship bracelet with his phone number—a bold play. Again, social media wanted me to know this — it was everywhere.

TS shows up at the game with her A-lister friends, hangs out with Travis’s parents, and he makes some impressive plays throughout the game –showing off for her. It’s sweet, it’s endearing, It’s pretty cute.

Fast forward to now, they’ve appeared on SNL, and he rocked up to her concert in Buenos Aires last weekend. He hangs out with her Dad in the family area. Nice, right? After the show, Taylor runs into his arms to give him a big smooch. The internet goes nuts! It’s all rather swoon-worthy.

But here’s the thing. It’s all pretty positive rhetoric on the internet for a change.  What’s not to love, right? Two gorgeous, talented All-Americans finding love? Very few people are poo-pooing it.

The footballer, Travis, is down to earth. He has a podcast with his brother, Jason, another NFL’er. Clips of this podcast also appear on my feed. Why? I don’t know. But they are there. All. The. Time. These men are refreshing and funny. They’re not taking themselves too seriously; they have a tremendous brotherly bond, and people love them for it.

The Brother

Jason Kelce, the brother, plays for another NFL team and was voted one of America’s Sexiest Men. But here’s the thing, Jason, isn’t your textbook hunk. He’s a big man, probably pushing 300 lbs. He has a beard and a belly. A burly, athletic Dad bod. And he’s Real. He’s a family man, a dedicated player, and a good-looking man in his own right. But he’s not the norm. He’s not Patrick Dempsey, the actual 2023 winner. But that’s what’s great. His wife, Kylie, is a gorgeous athletic woman, not a Barbie. These people are relatable. They’re refreshing. They’re making a splash. I love it.

What Next?

Who knows? I would love for Taylor to write songs about her Happy Ever After, not another break-up diddy centred around the “Chiefs player not coming home to her.” I want the sturdy footballer to win over America’s most coveted darling. I would also like to see more positivity in our fractured world. It’s not lost on me that while this American fairy tale love story unfolds –and everyone tries to capitalize on it. Two wars are going on, and real global issues are at hand, But I think that is why this love story is getting so much traction — it’s what the world craves, and oddly, it seems to be bringing about some unification in America. We all could use a little more positivity in our lives.

The US has been polarized for so many years. How ironic that more than 60% of Americans agree on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s love match. Is this all it took? Could it be that simple? Nah. But wouldn’t it be nice?

The coming together of the apex of feminine power and the fun dominant alpha male seems to have softened the American divide, even if it’s just a little.

I’m all for these two. I’m so tired of the entitlement and whining out of Hollywood. I like this modern-day love story between two talented, family-oriented hotties who seem to have their moral compasses in check amid their sizeable net worths. Let’s hope it works out.

In the meantime —  give them some breathing room. A  spark can’t last when smothered;  currently, these two are heavily blanketed. Leave them to one another. We’ll likely get the dirt in a song at some point. Here’s to it being a happy one.
